HONDA UNICORN BIKE INSURANCE

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. launched the BS-VI-compliant version of Unicorn at the beginning of 2020. The Honda Unicorn now comes with a larger engine and a modern fuel-injection system. Unicorn does not boast of fancy features, but the commuter motorcycle gets a simple headlight with a DC bulb. The console remains analogue and the centre roundel sports the odometer and speedometer with the tachometer and fuel gauge on the left and right flanks, respectively.

Honda Unicorn Insurance Coverage

Different types of insurance cover available for Unicorn:

Third-Party Cover – Every bike rider in India should at least have this cover while driving a bike. This plan covers the expenses related to bodily injury or death of an individual or damage to another person’s property caused by your bike.

Standalone Own-Damage Cover This policy covers your bike’s own damage expenses that arise due to a mishap or an accident.

Comprehensive Cover – This insurance policy compensates the expenses related to third-party liabilities and your bike’s own damage caused due to an unforeseen event or an accident.

Honda Unicorn Insurance: Add-On Covers

Zero Depreciation Cover: Depreciation reduces the value of your Honda Unicorn over time. The depreciation cost is to be borne by you. During claim settlement, your insurance provider deducts the depreciation cost from the claim amount. You can overcome this problem by including this add-on to your Unicorn insurance policy. Your entire claim will be paid by the insurance company.

Engine & Gear Protection Cover: A standard bike insurance policy, standalone own-damage or comprehensive cover, does not provide protection against damages caused to your bike’s engine and gearbox. In order to insure your bike’s engine and gearbox, you need to buy this add-on.

Invoice Protection Cover: If your Honda Unicorn bike is stolen and is not recoverable or damaged beyond repair (over 70 percent damage), the insurance company reimburses only the Insured Declared Value or IDV of the bike which is the market price minus depreciation. If you include this add-on in your policy, you can bridge the difference between the invoice price and IDV.

Roadside Breakdown Assistance Cover: If you get stuck somewhere due to an empty fuel tank, lubricating oil leak, or a flat tyre, the roadside assistance or breakdown cover comes to your aid.

Honda Unicorn: Review

The Unicorn is one of the popular two-wheeler brands of Honda and it has been updated to comply with BS-VI emission standards. In its new avatar, the Unicorn sports the same style and design, but a new engine. Features are all the same, except for the engine kill switch. The three-pod analogue type instrument cluster also remains the same but includes a single-channel ABS.

Honda Unicorn Insurance: FAQs

Q1: Can I add Own Damage cover to my second-hand Honda Unicorn bike insurance?

That is not allowed. This add-on is applicable only for new bikes purchased after September 2018. Comprehensive insurance may be a better option for you.

Q2: Does a reduction in my Unicorn’s IDV lower my premium payment?

Yes, it does reduce the premium payable by you, but it is not recommended because your liability will be higher if your bike is either stolen or is damaged beyond repair.

Q3: What should I do if my Honda Unicorn’s insurance has expired?

It is important to renew your Unicorn’s insurance policy prior to its expiry date. The protection offered by your policy will cease if it is not renewed on time.

Q4: Is a Bumper-to-Bumper cover and Zero Depreciation cover the same?

Yes, they provide the same coverage for your bike. However, an additional premium needs to be paid to buy the add-on cover.
