The Government of India's Ministry of Labour and Employment has introduced RSBY to offer Below Poverty Line (BPL) families access to health insurance. The purpose of RSBY is to shield BPL households from the financial obligations caused by medical emergencies that necessitate hospitalisation.

Eligibility for the SwasthyaBima Yojana:

Beneficiaries of the programme will be BPL-eligible unorganised sector employees and their families (a family unit of five).

Verifying the eligibility of the unorganised sector workers and his family members who are suggested to be benefited under the plan will fall under the purview of the implementing authorities. For identification purposes, SwasthyaBimaCards will be given to the beneficiaries.

RashtriyaSwasthyaBima Yojana Provides Health Insurance Coverage To:

The beneficiary of the RashtriyaSwasthyaBima Yojana shall be eligible for any in-patient health insurance benefits that the relevant State Governments may designate in accordance with local/regional needs including:

  • The unorganized sector employee's family (a unit of five) will receive coverage.
  • On a family floater basis, the total sum covered would be Rs. 30,000 per family per annum.
  • All covered diseases are treated without payment
