Nearly 93% of all workers in the nation are employed in the unorganised sector. For some occupational groupings, the government has begun introducing social security measures, but the scope is rather limited. The majority of workers continue to be uninsured for social security. The frequent occurrence of disease, the need for medical attention, and hospitalisation of such workers and their families is one of the main sources of insecurity for employees in the unorganised sector. The growth of medical facilities has not stopped the prevalence of illness as a cause of human deprivation in India.
